Looking back again at a bumper tourism year, Barcelona apartments rental company Enjoy Barcelona has shared their most popular times of the year and factors why travellers went to Barcelona in 2011.
“The calendar year got off to a wonderful start, and apart from the typical lag in November, we have noticed a considerably higher interest in Barcelona residences all year through,” points out Ralph Taal, director of Enjoy Barcelona.
“This calendar year we saw a rise in people visiting cultural events, to have a good time, enjoy local holidays and to take part in sport events. Even though we constantly possess a high number of travellers seeking facts regarding the landmarks of the city and the best beaches, we also saw a rise in people excited by exploring more districts of Barcelona. Travellers are much more aware that there is much more to Barcelona than only the Barceloneta area and the Gothic Quarter, though they remained our most famous regions to reserve an apartment.”
Barcelona has noticed developing tourism numbers all 12 months. In accordance to information launched by national airports, Barcelona has seen a 17.8% increase in arrivals these twelve months (to end of November). Visits to the Enjoy Barcelona site jumped in great way as well.
“In previous years, there has been many interest in checking out traditional Spanish cultural experiences – flamenco, paella, tapas and knowing every little thing regarding FC Barcelona”, said Mr Taal. “Though these were still preferred this year, we also saw an increase in travellers arriving in the city around a specific party or for a traditional holiday in Spain.”
Mr Taal told about two regions of particular progress amongst those staying in Barcelona apartments:
“We have observed an increasing numer of business groups and athletes booking apartments for groups.”
Top 5 Reasons Why Travellers went To Barcelona in 2011:
- Leisure Events, such as “Primavera Sound”, Night of the Museums, Adele live performance and Sensation White.
- Sports, such as “FC Barcelona vs Arsenal”, the marathon runs for the firefighters (Bombers) and the “El Cortes Ingles” sponsored marathon.
- Spanish vacations, for example “La Merce” and “Dia de Hispanidad”.
- Exploring the city. Last year the key metropolis landmarks and the beaches were most famous.
- Business Events, those as Mobile World Congress and the ITMA.
“Even though the majority of our clients want to sleep in the Gothic Quarter, Barceloneta or Eixample Izquierda, we have seen an increasing interest the past 12 months amongst our guests who want to discover the unique character of other neighbourhoods and “barrios” of Barcelona out of Ciutat Vella,” explained Mr Taal.
